La Salle Celebrates $2.5 Million Contribution To Caisse Community Centre

Provincial Grant Going Toward New Indoor Arena For Fast Growing Community

La Salle, MB, September 11, 2023 – The community of La Salle celebrated the news on Sunday, September 10th, 2023 that a new indoor arena will soon be taking shape as part of the Caisse Community Centre. The arena will be partly funded through a $2.5 million Arts, Culture and Sport in Community Large Capital Grant from the Province of Manitoba.

"This is terrific news for the community, because it means we can add one more popular amenity to the community centre,” said Tim Comack, Vice President of Development for Ventura Land Company Inc., which has been developing housing in La Salle’s Kingswood South and Prairie View Lakes subdivision since 2009. "We want to thank the province for joining us in making this a reality for all the La Salle-area families who are craving indoor ice time.”

The new arena has always been a planned addition to the existing 17,931 square foot multi-purpose community centre, which was built in 2014. Obby Khan, Minister of Sport, Culture and Heritage first announced the funding on July 31, 2023.

"We’re very excited about the provincial grant because it means we can now move forward and make more definitive plans for the arena and the centre as a whole,” said Brian Cornelsen, President of the Caisse Community Centre. "We will be keeping the community informed as we develop plans for this new facility addition.”

La Salle is the largest urban centre in the RM of Macdonald. The municipality has been growing quickly in recent years with the creation of the Prairie View Lakes subdivision, making it a convenient place for people who want the quiet of country life within a short drive to the City of Winnipeg.
